Mule deer and elk grow big in Nevada because all tags are limited by the state. But if you get a permit, you have an excellent chance of putting a bragging-size bull or buck on the wall. A former outfitter we know helps us to line up landowner permits that are transferable to non-resident hunters. Also, a percentage of all deer tags are reserved for clients of outfitters. You must apply for those permits in March and for elk tags by April 20. In 2009 we had three landowner permits, and the former outfitter also drew a permit. All four hunters killed bucks ranging from about 170 to more than 200 B&C points with spreads ranging from 26 inches to 34 inches.
