Coues whitetail deer hunts in Sonora, Mexico |

We hunted a different property in January 2009 for Coues deer than we did the previous winter. That's because the first landowner got greedy. He wanted more per permit than we had been charging hunters for a full-service hunt. So we decided to let him get a dose of reality and hunt Coues deer on one of our mule deer properties, where we had seen some excellent desert whitetails while mule deer hunting. In 2009 we had two guys who wanted a Coues, and we were able to produce a monster for both. Unbelievably, each buck scored 117 Boone and Crockett points. One of them had a bunch of broken tines. Judging from the thickness of the antler breaks, we estimate that buck probably would have scored more than 130 B&C intact. We'll post pictures from this winter's hunt soon. Meanwhile, feel free to call us about this hunt. We offer a full-service 1x1 hunt at competitive rates. We can discount for groups of hunters who can share guides or supply their own vehicles or want to hunt for only five days. The pictures here are from our 2007/'08 winter hunt, during which most hunters spent only one or two days on Coues deer. We left some bigger bucks than what we killed. So in January 2010 we should have four Coues deer permits at our main camp and another four to six permits on the great ranch we hunted last winter. At the main camp we stay in a ranch house with hot water and generated electricity. We will probably use a wall tent on the remote ranch we hunted in '08.
